Big Picture Philadelphia encourages our students to go beyond achieving a high school diploma. Each school includes an on-site Student Access Center that provides ongoing group and individualized assistance with college planning, applications, and financial aid help. Post-Secondary counselors utilize the "Step Up to College" guide, published by Philadelphia Futures, which is designed specifically for first-generation-to-college students. Dual-enrollment opportunities with Community College of Philadelphia, standard testing tutoring, on-site college fairs and workshops, college tours, and a need-based fund to help underwrite application costs are available to students. Big Picture Philadelphia maintains connections with many state and national colleges to facilitate student admissions.
Students spend time developing and exploring their long-term career interests, learning about various career paths, shadowing local professionals, and interning with local businesses, nonprofits, and municipalities. In the last year, our students have participated in internships with Energy Coordinating Agency, Temple University Hospital, La Colombe Torrefaction, Fairmount Water Works, Mayor’s Office of Education, WHYY, The Soup Kitchen, Liberty Vintage Motorcycles, and more. Big Picture Philadelphia continues to grow this work by establishing career tracts and focusing on workforce partners that are relevant for today's job market.
